What are the conventions of music videos?


  • 3 - 4 minutes
  • Studio
  • Visuals reflect lyrics -Usually
  • Sometimes videos are abstract/conception
  • Focus of artist as "star" 
  • e.g. low angle = high status close-ups repeated 
  • costume - might be inspirational/themed so designer/varies by genre
  • "Authorage" - the stars distinctive usual style
  • Fast cutting rate, many shots
  • Cutting rhythm - in sync with beats/lyrics
  • Lip Sync - performance - dancing playing instruments
